Age and Breast Cancer

Age is one of the strongest risk factors for breast cancer. From the Barlow paper,

Premenopausal risk by age (adjusted prior breast procedure, family history, and breast density) is shown in the table below. Thus, a premenopausal 50 year old woman has a 2.36 fold higher risk than a 35 year old.

Multivariable model for predicting breast cancer within 1 year in premenopausal women who have undergone previous screening (Barlow et al. 2006)
