Summary: Dr. Fan is a specialist. She received her medical doctorate from Shanxi Medical University, China and completed her residency at the Department of Radiology at Shanxi Occupational Diseases hospital, China. She continued with post-graduate studies with Dr. Harry Genant in the Radiology Department at UCSF by joining the Osteoporosis and Arthritis Research Group in 1996. She is a recognized expert in all aspects of evaluating osteoporotic fractures including the Genant Scoring method, quantitative vertebral morphometry, breast mammographic density, and the Genant-Sharpe method for grading the severity of hand rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Fan is also skilled in DXA quality assurance methods for clinical trials and is the data manager for studies involving over 30,000 subjects combined. Her own research focuses on validating novel medical imaging methods for clinical and research purposes. Dr. Fan has over 20 peer reviewed publications, 7 book chapters, and over 60 abstract presentations.
