Bone Densitometry Quality Assurance Services
BONE DENSITOMETRY QUALITY ASSURANCE SERVICES
Standard use of dual x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and quantitative computed tomography (QCT) comes from the strong correlation between bone mineral density and fracture risk in clinical trials. DXA scanners are widely available and offer an inexpensive and precise method to assess bone mineral density at many skeletal sites including the lumbar spine, proximal femur, forearm and total body.
We have successfully employed our own programs of quality control in global clinical trials and epidemiological studies, thus improving the quality of DXA measurements and increasing the accuracy of the conclusions drawn from these data.
We have three goals for quality assurance of DXA measurements:
- Assuring the quality of individual participant scans.
- Monitoring the long term calibration stability of the DXA scanners.
- Cross calibrating between study sites to allow for data pooling.
We collaborate with investigators using DXA, pQCT, and QCT methods by providing all of the above services for Bone Densitometry Central Analysis Center.
