Pediatric Bone Densitometry Web-Based Course
The collaborative research of the UCSF Departments of Radiology and Pediatric Rheumatology has resulted in a web-based course providing radiologists and pediatricians with the methods for acquiring and interpreting results of pediatric bone densitometry. This will educate clinicians on assessing children with fragility fractures and the long-term bone health of children with chronic illness. (This course is under development.)

Whole Body Composition by Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry

This is a course on acquiring and analyzing DXA whole body scans for body density and body composition. The course takes approximately 4 hours to go through and you will receive a course syllabus with copy of all the slides in PDF format. To receive your CME credit and certificate of completion, you will need to pass the quiz with at least a 80%.

This course is a on-demand course at UC Berkeley, Nuclear Engineering Department. The topics covered include:

Introduction to medical imaging physics and systems, including x-ray computed tomography (CT), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), positron emission tomography (PET), and SPECT;

Basic principles of tomography and an introduction to unfolding methods;

Resolution effects of counting statistics, inherent system resolution and human factors.

Dr. Shepherd welcomes graduate and undergraduate students interested in studying selected topics in statistical modeling of quantitative risk factors for breast cancer, advanced x-ray imaging of the breast, bone densitometry, bioimpedence tomography.

Statistics for Radiology Research: Lecture Series
