Scanner relocation

Dr. Shepherd,

Our center will move their scanner soon. I would like to confirm a few of issues with you.

1. Which cross calibration phantoms will be scanned before and after scanner

2. Will each phantom's 10 scans be done in one day before and after being moved or in five days?

LW, MD

scan 2x for 5 days

Dear L, In general, one should scan the complete cross calibration phantom set. If this is a stand-alone site, the spine phantom should be scanned 10 times.

If it is part of any study, they should scan the standard set of phantoms used for cross calibration. In either case, the phantom scans after the move should be within 1% of the scans before the move.  The best way to cross calibrate is by scanning the phantoms multiple times on various days. My group has found that this doesn’t make much difference for the spine or hip phantoms, but does for the hologic whole body phantom. We often have sites in studies scan the cross calibration phantoms 2x for 5 days in a row for 10 total scans. If this is a stand-alone site with just the whole body phantom, I would scan the phantom 10 times while the service tech is tell there and make sure there isn’t an apparent shift. If the site is involved in a study, I would scan the cross-calibraiton phantoms 2x on 5 days after the move as well and compare these values to the previous cross-calibration scans.   Best of luck!

John
